Errores frecuentes

Evita estos errores frecuentes

Incorrecto The dentist gave me an anesthesia before the filling.
Correcto The dentist gave me an anesthetic before the filling.

Incorrecto I would prefer narcosis for this extraction.
Correcto I would prefer general anesthesia for this extraction.

Incorrecto The nurse will make you an injection now.
Correcto The nurse will give you an injection now.

Calco de «poner una inyección». En inglés la inyección se gives o se administers, nunca se makes: make an injection suena a fabricarla. Lo natural es the dentist will give you an injection o I am going to administer the local anesthetic.

Incorrecto In the United States the anaesthetist is the doctor in charge.
Correcto In the United States the anesthesiologist is the doctor in charge.

Incorrecto How long until the anesthetic finishes?
Correcto How long until the anesthetic wears off?

Para el final del efecto existe la expresión fija wear off: the numbness will wear off in a couple of hours. Finish o end suenan artificiales.

  3. intravenous sedation — midazolam o diazepam

Troncular, pinchazo, dormido: falsos amigos

  • Se pasa el efecto es it's wearing off — no it's finishing

Se usa give o administer: the dentist will give you an injection, I am going to administer the local anesthetic. Nunca make an injection, que sugiere fabricarla.

Se acompaña de kick in (empezar a actuar), top up (reforzar) y last (durar).
